Creative Open Workshops: Birmingham

Handmade - The Birmingham Arts & Crafts Market is back for 2010 with 2 exciting dates coming up soon!

We are hosting a special Valentine’s Handmade on Saturday 13th February and Handmade on 6th March in the Custard Factory.

We are now accepting applications from stallholders interested in booking a table. We will be limiting the number of tables, as we will only be indoors. This means we will also be limiting the number of similar crafts.

Valentine’s Day appropriate products will get priority for 13th February 2010.

If you are interested in being considered for a table, please contact us for a booking form.

Keep an eye on the website for future dates (at a possible new location).
We look forward to seeing you at C.O.W soon.

Brixton remadeThe Work-Shop will be a hub for vision and action towards a zero waste community – a multipurpose space, with 3 main elements:

Shop: wall and window space filled with products for sale and exhibition from local enterprises that work with reused and recycled materials, and opportunities for free exchange.

Workshop: central workshop area with tables and tools, instruction kits, making demonstrations and frequent events – combining paid-for classes, free skill-sharing in practical repair and remaking, and swapping / sharing events. We will partner with distributed manufacturing initiative WeFab to get designs produced from reused materials by local makers and will do some production in-store.

Workshop teachers: people with repairing and making skills who would like to run workshops working with reused materials.
Makers: people who don’t want to teach but would like to come and remake / repair things in the space.
Designers: to develop new products made from local waste materials, and to create signage and graphics for the space.
Research and promotion team: to engage the public and local businesses, promote the Work-Shop, and research into what waste streams are available locally, what materials are in demand, what skills are available or needed.
Facilitators: people with facilitation / creative participation skills who would like to run events on visioning a zero waste Brixton.
Photographers and filmmakers to document the project.
Other compatible projects – what would you like to do in the Work-Shop?
